John Wallace

John Wallace (1929-2011) was born in St Louis, Missouri and received his BFA in 1953 from Washington University and his MFA from Indiana University in 1957. John attended the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine on a Fellowship. He participated in the RAiR grant while construction was being completed on the artist facility. The chaotic living conditions proved distressing for his family and he left Roswell early. John’s painting career spanned 60 years with dozens of solo exhibitions. In 1954 he created a fresco in South Solon, Maine which is an historic landmark. He taught and chaired the art department at Prairie State College in Illinois from 1968-1979 and did the same at Western Connecticut State University from 1981-2009 where he launched an MFA program in Visual Arts.
