January — February AMoCA News

Winning Weekend! The James Emery Neo Trio Concert and the Alexander Heffner Book Talk - both free events held this past weekend - were entertaining and engaging! Remember to become an AMoCA member to receive information and invitations to all our events!

Author Alexander Heffner discussed his book A Documentary History of the United States, Sunday February 19.

James Emery’s Neo Trio (left to right): James Emery, Cyrus Campbell and Chris Jonas, Saturday February 18.

The trio played for an appreciative crowd at the Anderson Museum.

AMoCA was full of commotion this past month! Topping the list was the RAiR Board retreat and the RAiR artist dinner for Nima Nabavi catered by Sara's Café & Grill. Leadership New Mexico and the Roswell Association of Realtors also held events here.

Nima Nabavi, the guest of honor at the AMoCA dinner which followed the opening of his exhibition “Visiting” at the Roswell Museum.

Triple the Love Served Up Symmetry

AMoCA's participation in the annual Triple the Love Hands-On Valentine Event — with Bone Springs Art Space and the Miniatures and Curious Collections Museum — included computer-generated kaleidoscope patterns which were projected and printed!

Two tours — including a "sketch your way through the museum" for local homeschoolers — focused on AMoCA's wonderous collection.

Two of Maria Rucker's (RAiR 1999-2000) sculptures on loan from the artist are now on display at AMoCA. Rhino (alabaster, 1999, 17.5” x 18” x 8”, shown above) and Goose Foot. After Maria's RAiR residency she returned to Germany, and her work stayed in storage here in Roswell. Her sculptures were shown at Bone Springs Art Space in December - January. More of Maria's work can be seen (and purchased) in the AMoCA and Bone Springs gift shops.

After placing Rhino (alabaster, 1999) in the museum's gallery with Robbie Barber's golf bag sharks, we noticed Barber’s hanging Hammerhead Shark was creating a shadow similar in shape to the Rhino's horn
